Make A Birthday Card With Me!
If you read my first post, you know I have loved making cards for people since I was a little kid. I remember spending hours on Pinterest saving all sorts of designs I loved. Now it has come full circle and I am sharing my first design.
Making birthday cards doesn’t have to be hard. You can start with construction paper and markers. In the end, it is the thought that counts. Your card doesn’t have to look the same - ideally, it won’t be the same, it will be your version.
Start with choosing the colours for your party hats. I used the Cricut cartridge Celebrations for my hats, but you can simply cut out a triangle with a circle at the top if you don’t own one! If you have any funky scissors, you could use those to make the ends fun. If you only have solid paper, use whatever drawing utensils you have to draw some designs on the hats. You can mix it up with stars, polka dots, or stripes. Whatever you can think of, the more creative the better. I used pom poms for the top of some of my hats to make it more fun.
Next, you want to choose your background colour. I overlay my background on top of a cardstock base, but you can always use your background as your base! Your base/background will decide how big you want your card to be. Usually, I fold a piece of 8.5” by 11” cardstock in half and use that as my base. If you want to overlay a background on top of a base, simply cut your background to the size of your base and use some sort of adhesive to attach them together. You can also always make your background a bit smaller than your base to create a border.
Once your base is together, it is time to decide on lettering. If you have sticky letters at home, find your favourite ones and pick out your saying. I went with Birthday Wishes using two different fonts/styles of lettering. If you don’t have any letter stickers at home, don’t worry! That is what you have a hand for! It is good to measure out the placement of your letters before you place them to save an unnecessary headache later. You can always mark it out in pencil first and erase it later. Sticky letters don’t tend to be to sticky, so I would recommend using some sort of glue to glue them down. If you are using your own lettering, mix it up with different colours and writing styles!
Now that you have your message in place, you have to determine where you want to put your party hats. I went with a simple u shape for mine, but make sure you try out different layouts before you glue the hats down. I used sticky squares to make the party hats pop out. You can mimic this at home by using a loop of tape or making a paper spring.
For my main message inside the card, I went with “Hats off to you” to match the party hat theme! All that is left now is to put your own personalized message inside.
I hope you had fun,
Mrs. Pads.
